QaF Ficlet "How Justin Came to be Back in the Pitts"
Hi everyone!

I hope everyone's Mother's Day is going well and every mother out there is doing what she wants to do.

I received some lovely gifts from my children and some flowers from my sister-in-law (who I've sort of been a mother to since she was thirteen).

And Alex got me the BEAR. I'll post a picture of it later, but it's the bear that sits on the sign at the Chainsaw Carving Place. The one that's always waving.

*does Justin-Snoopy dance*

She gave it to me when I was working at the shop this morning for a few hours.

All my customers in the lobby were commenting on the bear as they watched me squeeing and holding the thing.

Anywho, here's a little Mother's Day 'thing' to my flist.

Title: How Justin Came to be Back in the Pitts
Pairing: Justin, Jennifer
Summary: Justin did promise his mother a dance, now didn't he?
Timeline: Post 513, by a few months.
Spoilers: 513

Jennifer sighed as she took in the glorious Sunday morning. It was a beautiful, sunny day, not at all like her thoughts at the moment however.

Justin was in New York, having left a month or so ago after he and Brian had called off the wedding.

Molly went to Craig's for the weekend as she always did, despite the fact that it was Mother's Day. Or, because of it, she should say. It seems Craig was planning a big picnic for his current wife and Molly wanted to be there.

It probably had more to do with a certain six foot tall, football player brother of said wife.

It was for the best probably, as Tucker wanted her to meet his mother.

It would just be the three of them today and Jennifer was slightly dreading the meeting.

Jennifer could almost hear the conversation now.

"And this is Jenn mom, I've told you all about her," Tucker would say.

"Oh hello dear, weren't we in the same class in high school?" his mother would say.

Oh yeah, won't that be a great way to spend Mother's Day.

Jennifer sighed again as she realized she was just being silly because really, Tucker's mother was much older than her.

Much, much older.

Still, it would have been nice to have gotten to spend the day with at least one of her children.

They did, after all, spring forth from her loins. She remembered. She was there.

Just then there was a knock at the door. Jenn looked at the clock on the mantel and wondered if she had gotten the times mixed up.

Tucker wasn't due for another hour.

"Tucker, I didn't expect you now," Jenn said as she opened the door and then stopped, taking in the sight before her.

It wasn't Tucker.

It was Justin.

And he was standing on the porch steps, a bundle of flowers in one hand, dressed not in the clothes he had taken to wearing in his college days, but in a nice pair of slacks and button up shirt.

"Hi," Justin said and waved shyly.

And there it was, that smile.

God, how she had missed that smile.

Justin laughed, "so can I come in?"

"Oh yes!" Jennifer quickly said and stepped aside so her son could enter the condo.

The son who had taken off for New York and adventures unknown in the large city.

"What...um...what are you doing here?" Jenn stuttered out.

"You're not happy to see me?" Justin asked, unsure of himself.

"I just thought...after the way you left," Jenn sighed, "of course I'm happy to see you." And with that Jennifer went in for a hug after grabbing the flowers from Justin. She wanted to hold on and never let go but she didn't want to push it. "Let me put these in water," Jennifer said as she wiped something from her eyes.

Justin followed her into the kitchen. "Here let me," he said as he took the flowers from her and located a vase.

"So," Jennifer said as she put a strand of hair behind her ear, "what brought you all the way out here? Is everything okay in New York. Do you need money?" Jennifer asked in a rush.

"I'm fine mom," Justin laughed. "I had to come out here. I wanted to see you." Justin finished with the flowers and turned to his mother. "I never did get to have that dance with you on my wedding day."

Jennifer bit her lips, and laughed nervously. "Oh Justin," Jennifer choked out.

Justin quickly looked away. "Living room?" Justin asked as he lifted the flowers.

Jennifer nodded and headed to the living room, Justin in tow.

"How's Tucker?" Justin asked off-handedly. "He didn't get run over by a speeding car or a dump truck or anything, right?"

"Not to my knowledge," Jenn snickered. "In fact, we're going to meet his mother today."

"Oh?" Justin said with a lift of his eyebrow. "You two should have a lot in common...being that you were born in the same decade," Justin finished with a smirk.

"Now you," Jennifer said and then laughed as Justin started to laugh also.

"I was kidding...it was a joke...it was a joke," Justin laughed as his mother went in to tickle him.

"So," she started, "my dance."

Justin walked over to the stereo system and picked out a CD he thought would be perfect. He put the CD into the tray, pushed PLAY and walked back over to Jennifer, holding out his hand.

Jennifer could hear the beginnings of Nat King Cole's Unforgettable playing.

She smiled as she accepted her son's hand and began to dance with him, embracing Justin to her as they swayed.

"Mom, not so tight," Justin gasped out.

"Sorry," Jenn laughed sheepishly. "I've just missed you so much."

"I know," Justin said as he swayed to the music with his mother.

"How did you get here?"

"I have my ways," Justin said and continued to move back and forth to the music with his mother.

Jennifer didn't want this to end. She had her son here...with her...in her arms.

Oh she wasn't delusional. She knew it wouldn't be long before he had to go. And it was just as it should be.

You had to let your children go so they could live their lives, just as she was allowed to do so with hers at one time.

But right now she could pretend he was still the little boy that needed her to kiss his cuts and scrapes and to check for the monster under the bed at night.

It was her day with Justin and she would enjoy every minute she had with him, no mater how short it was.

As Jennifer swayed to the music, she looked out the living room window and saw a green Corvette parked out on the curb, its sole occupant leaning back in the driver's side, smoking a cigarette.

Jennifer smiled.

Justin certainly did have his ways.

The End

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers on my flist!!!!

Hugs you all!!!!

This was brilliant and actually had me quite weepy. Having a 21 year old keeps me on a precipice like Jen's.

Ahh-hhh, I LOVED this. All schmoopy, and loving, and even B/J love, and as Hunter says, it was "Tight".
I love what Alex did for you. It takes a daughter to know where her Mother's heart lies. The most wonderful mother's day gift I ever received was when my sons, ages 8 and 16, gave to me the biggest, plastic-resin, multi-colored monstrosity of an ash tray ever conceived by man. I treasured that ugly thing for decades because all by themselves, they shopped for it, spent their own money for it, and presented it to me wrapped in pride and happiness.
Maria: B/J ILUslave_o_spike on May 13th, 2007 11:59 pm (UTC)
I can't believe it when Alex walked in with the bear. and she had her boyfriend take her to the place to get it! It was so cute! She put a bow around its neck.

*sigh*

I love the story about what your sons did. It almost makes it all worth it. :)

Thanks Joyce!

AWWW Justin is such a good son! And I see he is not the only Taylor with "allergies". And loved just the hint of B/J.

Glad you had such a good Mother's Day. Can't wait to see pictures of the bear.

Pictures of the bear coming. :)

Gotta have BJ, always. And not even Mama Taylor can hold up to a son's unexpected visit.

With flowers.

And wanting to dance.

Thank you!

What a wonderful Mother's Day surprise.

I spent half the day today (finally) reading your Cannibal!fic. I was an hour late getting to MY mother's house because of you! It was the most dementedly funny thing I've ever read. I have more comments, but no time right now, so I'll get to them later. I just wanted you to know that you made Mother's Day 2007 truly memorable!
Maria: Bad Mommyslave_o_spike on May 14th, 2007 01:24 am (UTC)
Thank you!!!!

LOL! I made you late! don't you know that when mother is waiting, you don't read cannibal fic! *shakes finger at you*

I'm glad I made MD 2007 memorable though. Woo Hoo!!!!

OMG that was so sweet. I wish my kids had been able to surprise me on Mother's day, but they are much too young to just show up on my doorstep from across the country. You have no idea how much I am missing them now.

It was a great story
Maria: BJ cuddleslave_o_spike on May 14th, 2007 01:26 am (UTC)
They're across country? I'm sorry. *hugs you*

And yes, I can imagine how much you are missing them, truly. No matter how I joke around about my kids, if they're away for just a night, I start to get paranoid.

Thank you very much! *hugs you again*

Having a way
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *sniffs*

*wipes tears*

I love this story. I love Jennifer and Justin.

Jennifer sighed again as she realized she was just being silly because really, Tucker's mother was much older than her.

Much, much older.

Still, it would have been nice to have gotten to spend the day with at least one of her children.

They did, after all, spring forth from her loins. She remembered. She was there.

I chuckled for Jennifer here. Oh yes, I do understand.

"Hi," Justin said and waved shyly.

And there it was, that smile.

God, how she had missed that smile.

Oh yes she would. I can see this playing out in my head.

"How's Tucker?" Justin asked off-handedly. "He didn't get run over by a speeding car or a dump truck or anything, right?"

"Not to my knowledge," Jenn snickered. "In fact, we're going to meet his mother today."

"Now you," Jennifer said and then laughed as Justin started to laugh also.

"I was kidding...it was a joke...it was a joke," Justin laughed as his mother went in to tickle him.
This was so well pitched.

swayed.

Yes, Yes,....and Yes....we do want to hold them close. But we also want them to make it on their own, make their own choices and live their own lives...we just need to hold them every now and again.

As Jennifer swayed to the music, she looked out the living room window and saw a green Corvette parked out on the curb, its sole occupant leaning back in the driver's side, smoking a cigarette.

Jennifer smiled.

Justin certainly did have his ways.

I do believe that Brian would make anything happen that he could for Justin. But I also felt that Brian truly liked and respected Jennifer.

I am so happy you got your Bear. YAY Alex!!!!!!!!

Happy Mother's Day Maria!

Re: Having a way
Thank you. *sniff sniff*

I was tearing up a bit when writing it, as I put myself in her shoes. Donovan and Rowan have been extra huggy and clingy lately (esp Donovan). If I lay down on the couch for a quick nap or something, he snuggles up to me immeditaley.

I hold them close when they do because I know one day I won't get that anymore. *sigh*

I love the woman Alex has become but sometimes I see the little 5 year old tomboy who walked around with her nerf blaster pretending to be the Terminator and saying "let's rock."

Well, you know what I mean.

And thanks for the quoty fb - I love it! And this was a cinch to write because I could see it all play out in my head.
