An update and some thank you's
Hey.

It's been awhile...

I'm seriously wondering why anyone keeps me on their flist at this point.

Yes, I've been MIA since, well, hell, the summer! Except for one post about The Dark Knight, I've not been on lj that whole time.

I guess you could sum it up with a movie title, namely, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

The good part was that I spent most of my summer with my kids. We went to the lake (about a 4 minute drive from our house) practically everyday. I would take the kids out for about a couple hours, Griffon would swim with the kids and take them out on the tube and they had a blast.

I also tried to take them places when the weather was not conducive to going to the lake. It was an enjoyable summer in that respect. Really.

I needed to do that as I knew once school started, I wouldn't have that chance anymore. Donovan, btw, is still at home with me. We decided to wait on Kindergarten with him as we didn't feel him ready yet. Next year though, it's a definite.

The bad part? There were so many little and big emergencies that sprung up all summer (some that began in the Spring) and they had to be handled. I don't want to bore you with them. Just to let you know, I've had one cook walk out in the middle of a busy shift, Jailbird Jim has finally flown the coop and not only have I been harassed by one county employee, but now two!

There was just so much to handle along the way all summer that I couldn't really get in any play time except for what I reserved for the kids, which was very important to me, ya know.

And finally, we get to the ugly...

When my birthday reared it's 'ugly' head, I had decided to log onto lj that night after my b-day day's events and check out my flist, respond to any posts aimed at me, and thank everyone for their private notes and v-gifts.

Everyone was given explicit instructions that it was to be my day and not to bother me with stupid shit. So I started the day by getting the kids ready (the 3 youngest) to go with me and Joe to lunch at Mediterranean Kitchen and then to the large mall in Bellevue. I was to go shopping for Griffon's school clothes. I know that doesn't sound like very b-day type activities for me but it's kinda nice when I have the time to shop without being interrupted. And its enjoyable to me.

Also, we would take a side trip to the Lego store for the kids where I would indulge them. Again, I don't really care about buying stuff for myself. I enjoy it more when the kids are happy.

Then after all that, Joe and I planned on taking the kids home and then going to a movie in Redmond called Bottle Shock and to a late dinner at Todai.

Then after being well fed and happy, I would have gone on to lj.

Well, we got to lunch at Med. Kitchen and we were in the mall - first stop at the Lego Store. After the kids got their purchases together and we stopped to ogle all the cool sets, Joe goes off to the restroom and I take care of the purchases.

I then get a call on my cell (and did I mention how much I'm starting to hate these things). Its Joe and he's telling me we have to wrap things up and go, right now.

I'm standing here, buying stuff for my kids and thinking, 'WTF?'

So I finish up and get the kids to the parking garage where Joe is waiting in the car. He tells me Alex called him and she's in super pain and we have to go now.

So we drive all the way from Bellevue to home (half on hour trip) and there's Alex, in excruciating pain.

The first thing we thought was it was her disk that might have ruptured or something and then she's telling us her back doesn't hurt, but that she's feeling incredible abdominal pain. We didn't call an ambulance because they would only be required to take her to the hospital in Snoqualmie Valley.

So we drive her back to Bellevue because the best emergency room to go to in all of the Seattle area is there and she gets right in.

Doesn't matter though, its still a matter of 'hurry up and wait.' She gets into a room right away and we see a doctor pretty quickly but in order to perform the catscan, they need her to drink this liquid and then another liquid (the one with the contrast) and you could only guess how much fun all this was.

The doctor was fun too. He came in. A nice looking guy.

Introduced himself to us and then proceeded to tell Alex that she looked familiar. We started talking and he found out that we owned Small Fryes.

He stopped doing the examination for a brief moment and said he and his wife and his kids loved our place and he had been known to have to drive 20 minutes to get to our shop when his pregnant wife got cravings.

Doctor: Wait until I tell the kids I met you guys.
Me: We're honored (said in my most sardonic voice).
Alex: *holds a thumbs up gesture despite her pain*
Me: She's honored too.

Once the good doctor (and he did have an incredibly good bedside manner, which is really important in situations such as these) proved to me it was not a ruptured disk, he ordered the catscan and said he was worried it was her appendix.

So after spending all day in the hospital (also part of this time was spent entertaining Colin, her boyfriend who was rather worried about her also) and two catscans later (the first one showed the ovarian cyst but the appendix was partially blocked and not visible - the second one showed the appendix to be perfectly okay), we left the hospital with a prescription around 10 at night.

Maybe 11.

I'm not sure.

I got home and fell asleep.

Anywho, that's how I spent my day but to tell you the truth, it could have been much worse. She's fine as of today and we now sit around and laugh about how I spent my birthday.

Yeah, we're kinda weird that way.

I wanted to thank spike7451 and an anonymous poster for my v-gifts. I also wanted to thank everyone else who sent me warm wishes in the mail. I'll be getting around to posting to each of you personally.

I will not promise I'll post more regularly from now on but I am writing again. It was very hard to concentrate on writing during the summer when I had so much going on and my humor has not been the best, which is so important in my writing, as you well may know.

Anyway, I know I make a terrible lj friend sometimes, but one thing about the great flist I have is that I can count on you guys for being here. I do love you guys. :)

So what has everyone else been up to?
