What's going on...
Because of the economy, we've had to change how we do things at Small Fryes.

No longer can we just charge our prices and ignore the people who can't afford more than $5 for lunch.

That was fine for the past 10 years, but times are 'a changing.' I've been quite busy promoting (and cooking) our new value cheeseburger and meal.

Yep, we've gone the route of Mickey D's and offered a killer deal.

How did we promote it?

Why for the past few days, we've been giving away free cheeseburgers, namely our value cheeseburgers and during times of freakish snow storms (and I would qualify this one as one of them with temps in the low 10's and 20's), we've been pretty dead in the past.

But for the past two days, we were quite busy.

Okay, yeah, there were free cheeseburgers involved, but foot traffic is foot traffic and today, we had the locals come back for the cheap burgers.

So I have to say the giveaway was a huge success.

What's the deal? Cheeseburgers at $1.75 or 3 for $5.

They're quite popular. :)

So that's why I'm pretty quiet right now but hey! I took that "What sexy man are you?" test and look!

It's pretty damn accurate!

Your result for The What type of MAN turns you on Test...

Naughty boy

You scored 35% masculine, 47% athletic, 27% exotic, and 50% refined!

You like your men with a more boyish look. The huge muscle-popping men don't do it for you as much as the sleeker toned guys. You like the all-American look, but not the squeaky clean type - a little on the bad boy side. Someone like.å....Ashton Kutcher. But let's face it, the whole point of this was to look at a bunch of hot guys. If you liked what you saw, please rate my test!

And oh yes! That's Donovan on his inner tube in last year's snow pictured in my icon. :)

'scuse me, ma'am. Can I have one of them thar free cheeseburgers, please?

It's a great idea you had there and should certainly stimulate your business during the slower times, hon. And I'm also quite sure that they taste a fuck of a lot better than McPukals ever could hope to!

LOVE the icon! He looks like he's having a blast!

I'll send one to you 'down under.'

We ordered a McPuke today just to see what they offered and yuck! Mine are so much better. Mmmmm....

He was having fun. This year he was doing the same thing but it was just too damn cold most of the time. It was 10 degrees F this morning!

I think it's awesome you are getting lots of foot traffic and keeping busy! I love cheeseburgers! *happy sigh*

A naughty boy fits you! *giggles*

Except for vegans, is there anyone who doesn't?!?! LOL!

Yes, a naughty boy does fit me. :) An Orlando would fit me nicely too.

Maria: B/J ILUslave_o_spike on December 21st, 2008 12:21 am (UTC)
Well cheap burgers at least! :) I can't do that with my other ones. The food is way too expensive.

And yes, I'm counting on people buying it. :)

BTW, thank you for the Christmas card. *smooches*

Hey there you! I'm so glad that business has been picking up for you lately! A smart entrepeneure always responds to the economy, so that was a brilliant idea! And now you've made me hungry for a cheeseburger! I haven't had a good one since I made it myself on our outdoor grill this summer! I'm with you, by the way, McDonald's is just plain GROSS!

It's freakin' cold here right now, isn't it! And living in the foothills, it's even colder for you than where I am. Hope the big wind/snow/sleet/freezing rain storm that's supposed to hit tonight isn't too bad for you. Stay warm and safe, hon!

Maria: Christmas Vintage Santaslave_o_spike on December 27th, 2008 01:34 am (UTC)
McDonalds is gross compared to my burger and a real steal at 3 for $5!!! You need to try one. Although it may be hard when it's so snowy everywhere right now. I have 2 feet of snow outside my door here. LOL!!!

We stayed warm and safe, but boy! We were so scared there would be so much snow we couldn't get out of our driveway. Well we did (and this morning was testament to how great our Expedition is). How's the snow where you are?

*smooches and hugs*

Hi! How was your Christmas, hon? I hope it was a good one! Ours went surprisingly well, all things considerd. We ended up moving Christmas Eve (which is always at our house) to my in-laws' (in University Place, basically western Tacoma, within view of the Narrows Bridge, to give you a general idea) because it was easier for everyone else to get there (both m-i-l and f-i-l have been battling colds so driving here was NOT something they were looking forward to, and s-i-l's family was driving to Lacey (south of Tacoma) later that night anyway). It actually worked out pretty well, once I managed to pack up half my kitchen and transport it to their place! See, we still had to bring the ham and turkey breast, as well as sandwich fixings (breads and cheeses), potato sausage, appetizers, cookies, fudge and two different desserts!

In a way, it was actually more convenient for us, too, since we were able to go straight from the in-law's to the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at our church (we still go to church down there rather than in Federal Way), which Hubby was talking about possibly skipping this year because of the snow. We didn't get back home until nearly 1:00 in the morning but I'm still glad we went. For me, it's just not Christmas Eve without the Candlelight Service!

Of course, the next morning, our two kids showed up early (7:30) to open their Christmas presents here before we all went back down to MY parent's home in Fircrest (a little town that used to be a suburb of Tacoma, very close to University Place) in order to open gifts and share Christmas brunch with them as well as my sister and her two boys. We hung around there until nearly 1:00, then went to check out the new place my son is now renting (less than a 5 minute drive from his grandparents). We stayed there until nearly three, when we had to go back over to my in-law's for Christmas dinner! It was after 8:00 before we finally got back and collapsed in our own home again! So that was our Christmas, lovely and hectic as alway, made just a bit more difficult due to the nasty snow.

We got probably half the snow you did, but it's still WAY more than we're used to! The ONLY way we can get around right now is if we use hubby's Chief's car! It has four wheel drive and moves like a tank, thank heavens! We have a really steep and BADLY designed driveway and live near the top of an even steeper hill, so if we had to rely on our own cars, we'd be sunk! Luckily, my husband's been on vacation since the snow built up or I'd have been housebound without him!

Hope all is well with you and your family! *sending happy holiday hugs your way*

Whew! That does sound like a hectic day! LOL! Ours wasn't nearly that hectic. Actually, we stayed in all day and it was HEAVEN!!!!

We've all been working the shop and the sign we put out front that says 3 Cheeseburgers for $5. It works like a charm but it's been very tiring PLUS we had several employees who couldn't come to work because they were snowed in.

Yes, thank whoever for 4 wheel drive!

I hope to be posting pics of of the snow and Christmas soon.

Glad though your day was fun (I'm still sick and yeah, I was working during that time too).

simplyshanni on December 27th, 2008 02:49 am (UTC)
Oh, what a nice, relaxing Christmas! Lucky you!

Well, I'm sure glad your business hasn't suffered due to the nasty weather, hon! With a great deal ike that, I can understand why! I bet it has been exhausting, though, especially with absentee employees!

Yeah, four wheel drive is a genuine blessing!

Oooh! I'll be looking forward to your pics!

Aww! *cuddles poor Maria and wishes her AAALLLLL BETTER* Take good care of you, hon!

Oh man, I want one of those hamburgers (and fries) right now! :D What a great idea!

Hey, you know what everyone says Ashton Kutcher looks like, don't you? *wink wink* hee hee

Happy Holidays, Maria!! *Hugs*

It is a great idea! We were slammed on Monday and Tuesday when most businesses were slow (because of the snow and economy). And the burgers are really yummy. :)

Yes, I've heard he looks like Brian. :) Although, I guess I think of Orlando when I think pretty boy.

And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!!!! *hugs and squishes*
