I'm starting to hate the time around my birthday...

Remember last year, how I spent the whole day of my birthday in the ER because of Alex?

Well, it wasn't my birthday, but it started on Friday night when Joe (hubby) complained of real bad abdominal pain. It then proceeded into Saturday and Saturday night, Joe was doubled over in IMMENSE pain so I took him to the ER (this time it wasn't Overlake though - the hospital that Gates donated over a million to and looks like the mall - puts the hospital in House to shame - this time it was the one deep in the Snoqualmie Valley). So they give him pain meds and then he's drifting off in happyland and then he got a CT scan.

But of course it wasn't that simple. Yet again, he had to drink the contrast so we were there well into the night as we had to wait the 4 long hours. The scan came back and he had thrown a clot and it was wreaking havoc with his spleen.

Being the small country hospital, they sent him via ambulance to Harborview where (a teaching hospital deep in Seattle) a House-wannabe looked him over and couldn't wait to start all the different kinds of testing. Of course, they wanted to cut out his spleen. After all, they kept telling him he didn't need it.

Joe replied, 'yeah, well, I don't technically need my arm, but you don't see me wanting to cut it off.'

The ER there was a mess! All the different people chained to their beds, screaming their heads off and whatnot. A male nurse came by to take Joe's vitals. Joe asked if this was where they recruited people for the soylent green and chuckled.

The nurse looked at Joe as if he had grown two heads. 'Soylent green?' he asked.

'Ask one of your older co-workers,' Joe had replied and just as he was saying that, a small voice could be heard coming from the nurse's station, 'soylent green is people.' LOL!

'Go ask him,' Joe said.

It was nice to see Joe's sense of humor still with him, despite the pain and the heart monitors strapped to him and the bruising from all the needle pricks and pokes done to him.

They had sent him home with a diagnosis of splenic infarction and gave him a prescription for pain meds.

Sunday was terrible and Monday morning he woke up with a raging fever and more pain than he could deal with. I was bringing him to the country hospital yet again Monday night and he was then admitted.

Another CT scan and it hadn't changed and they wanted to observe him for infection. No infection thankfully but they upped his pain meds and he came home on Wednesday.

The doctors were pretty sure that this would clear up and that his spleen wouldn't have to be removed. But that was still an option.

Joe was getting pretty mad by this time. 'Gees! We're not Mr. Potato Heads,' he was arguing in frustration. 'You can't just remove a part and say you don't need it. Oh look. It's a spleen. We don't need this. Here, let's just put it where his eyes should be. It's not like it does anything!'

This is why I love this man. :)

He seems to be doing fine now but this week has been real hell. No sleep while running the business and getting Donovan to his first day of Kindergarten.

On another note, Megan is all settled in her dorm room now and has been attending the first few weeks of NEW friggin York!!!

Her dorm mates decided they wanted to watch Twilight so they rented it and asked if they could watch it on her iMac and wouldn't it be fun? Megan, of course, was like, 'I've seen the movie and I'm not that into it...yeah, okay...'

So she watched it and then told them it was making her homesick. (We live in a place very much like the town of Forks). I've put together a care package for her and will send it off tomorrow.

When I was home by myself, after visiting hours, and I couldn't sleep (you would think I would have hit the pillows and not emerged till the next morning but my constant worrying might have had something to do with not sleeping - after all, I am quite attached to Joe you know) I was writing.

Because that's what I do when I'm in a dark mood.

I wrote three standalones - each one with my OTP.

A zombie fic with Brian and Justin, a ghoulish one with Sean and Orli and another one - a Lovecraftian kind of thing - with Orli and Sean.

I might post them. I don't know. You might lynch me if I post the Brian Justin one and you might commit me if I post the last one I mentioned. LOL!

So that's where I've been.

How's your week going?
