Ahhhh!!!! *pulls hair out*

God, I really do hate people sometimes!

Have you seen the news today? The major headline today was about the little 6 year old Colorado boy who had floated away in their mylar balloon.

He was found.

Yes, he was FOUND.

I repeat. He was FOUND!!!!

I'm putting that in all caps because this is a GOOD thing. A very very GOOD thing.

I really shouldn't read people's comments but I do. I'm drawn to it like a moth to flame. Like a big gullible, stupid moth to a stinking hot flame.

But I do.

First people were talking about how the parents should be investigated. That maybe the kid didn't climb in the balloon and that they did something to him and are now covering it up. They were talking about how they were a bad family and CPS should be knocking at their door. They talked about how the father had anger issues, blah blah blah. Only a few people said I hope this kid is found and everything is okay. Stop blaming the parents. Isn't it enough that what they're going through is horrible as it is.

I concur.

Now! now, the kid has been found and you would think people would be laughing about it. He was scared. he knew he was in trouble and was HIDING. LOL! But oh no, people have to come out and start talking about billing the parents for the search and rescue efforts. About how this might be a hoax, blah blah blah.

They're even talking about how they should charge them with criminal charges and take the kids away.

Hello! First off, the parents denied it and the rescue workers are agreeing that the parents really were worried about their son.

I'm just so fucking pissed off right now.

All this speculation and the kid was hiding. People should just be relieved and leave it at that.

And yes, I do have a point. Unless it was an orchestrated hoax, and I saw the father and mother on tv, they had not been acting, then yes, a different coarse of action should be taken.

But even when people said it probably wasn't a hoax, the parents should still be billed had me REELING. So let me get this straight.

If you have a kid and he/she goes missing, you better be damn sure that the kid is no where else because if you even call the police and they start a search and rescue effort, if the kid is found alive and there was nothing to worry about it the first place (which in my mind, stupid I know, is a GOOD thing), then the parents should be billed...for doing what they should be doing! Doesn't this mean, that if you start up this very DANGEROUS precedent, that people might not report their kid missing for longer?

*mutters profanities at the public*

Sorry if this is a big jumbled mess...

I agree. I was stunned and so fearful for the child and family when I heard the news! What a terrible thing to have happened! The poor parents! How scary!
And I was so relieved that the child was found and uninjured.

It's disgusting that people only care about money. Is this what the world has come to? To kick people when they are down, to kick them some more when they are rightfully relieved, and then kick them again for good measure?

I agree with your thoughts... if this family is billed, I think there will be a lot more families afraid to call for help if their child is missing... and those first 12 hours are critical.

Exactly! When Rowan was first missing about 3 years ago, I looked everywhere! I had neighbors looking too. When we found her at the neighbors' BBQ and she first saw me (she walked up to me, handed me a canned Sprite and asked for me to open it) I sagged with relief and opened the can with trembling hands. Everyone sat around me and gave ME a canned soda just to calm down.

But had we not found her in the next 15 minutes, I would have called the sheriff!

And it wasn't just the people who were talking about money. They were talking about how moronic the parents were and how it was their fault and how it was a bit fishy...

I just wish people would be happy, laugh at the whole thing because these stories ever rarely turn out well and just drop it.
